The camp of former minister Manoranjan Kalia, who won from Jalandhar (Central) in this election, has been feeling ignored ever since Bhagat Chunni Lal was elected as the leader of BJP legislators in Vidhan Sabha. Kalia was nominated as the leader of BJP legislators in 2007. With this move of the BJP High Command the chances of Kalias becoming a minister are getting dim, said a senior BJP leader. Both Kalia and Bhagat are three-time MLAs.
Kalia was earlier dropped from the ministry in 2010 in the previous regime of SAD-BJP and he then had to work hard to get a ticket.
Though Bhagat Chunni Lal does not belong to any camp within the BJP party, but there is another BJP group in Jalandhar, which belongs to K D Bhandhari,a BJP MLA who won from Jalandhar (North) and Municipal Corporation (MC) Mayor Rakesh Rathore Kalia. Both Bhandhari and Rathore do not have comfortable equations with Kalia.
During Lal Krishan Advanis rath yatra,Mayor Kalia, who was very keen to get Assembly ticket from Jalandhar (Central) attended a rally organised by Bhandari, skipping that
of Manoranjan Kalia. Some BJP leaders were happy with giving new authority to Bhagat, who belongs to the Dalit community.
