Kahlon to teach aspiring golfers

CHANDIGARH: Harmeet Singh Kahlon,professional golfer and director of Academy of Golf,Chandigarh Golf Club,will organise “playing on course initiative” at the Chandigarh Golf Course from January next year onwards. Now aspiring young amateurs along with junior and sub junior golfers from Chandigarh and neighbouring states can learn the basics of the game from him. Kahlon will play 9 holes once a week with the interested golfers in a four ball format. Aspiring golfers can learn from the routine,technique,methodology,strategy,mind and skills of the golfer who has been India’s top sub junior,junior,amateur and professional golfer. Stepping Stone lifts title

CHANDIGARH: Despite a cracking half-century by Yogesh (60 off 50 balls),Stepping Stone School lost to Saupin’s School,Sector 32,by 30 runs in the final of the GNPS inter-school U-17 cricket championship organised by Guru Nanak Public School,Sector 36,and Chandigarh Cricket Association,on Wednesday. For Saupin’s,Swapnil came up with a stellar all-round effort (32 runs,2 for 6) to help the team triumph. Earlier,Saupin’s batted first and scored 158 for 5 in 20 overs. Prithvi Lahotiya smashed a quick-fire 40-ball 50 to accelerate the run rate. Swapnil chipped in with 32 runs. In reply,Stepping Stone were restricted to 128 for 7 in 20 overs. Yogesh top scored with 60 runs but he couldn’t steer his team to victory as the other batsmen failed to get going against the disciplined Saupin’s bowling performance. Satyam and Swapnil bowled well and took two wickets each. Prithvi Lahotiya of Saupin’s-32 was chosen the man of the series while Yogesh and Charanpreet of Stepping Stone School won the best batsman and best bowler titles respectively.

Sehajpreet off to winning start

CHANDIGARH: Sehajpreet got off to a winning start in the boys U-14 category when he got the better of Chadha 6-5 (7-4) in a thrilling encounter during the Kundan International Total Tennis Championship being held at Kundan International School in Chandigarh on Wednesday.

City golfer Karandeep in Indian team

CHANDIGARH: City golfer Karandeep Kocchar will lead the Indian challenge in the Asia Pacific Junior Golf Championship in Kolkata along with Manu Gandas,Viraj Madappa and Arjun Prasad. India start as the favourites in the championship in which 70 golfers from seven countries will vie for the top honourd at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club. The four-day tournament will be played on stroke play format with the boys competing over 72 holes,while the girls will have a 54-hole competition in three age groups Group A (15-17),Group B (13-14) and Group C (11-12). India will find strong challenge from Thailand who are fielding a 17-member contingent,while the other serious contenders include Chinese Taipei who too have fielded a full-fledged team. Bangladesh,Nepal,Hong Kong and Sri Lanka are the other teams in the fray.
