LUDHIANA MP Ravneet Singh Bittu of the Congress and Youth Congress leader Vikram Mofar were produced in a Bathinda court Saturday that extended their judicial custody to October 31.
Bittu was booked by the Bathinda police on September 29 after he was accused of locking the chief agriculture officer in his office. He was protesting against the agrarian crisis in the state. Bittu presented himself for arrest on October 14 at Bathinda.
Showing solidarity with Bittu, Congress MLAs Parminder Singh Pinki, Ajit inder Singh Mofar, Rakesh Pandey, Surinder Dawar, Gurkirat Singh Kotli, Navtej Cheema and Bharat Bhushan Aashu said that they will approach Punjab Governor and urge him to drop all cases against Bittu.
They added that the Punjab Government should also drop all cases registered during the recent farmers agitation.
Lambasting the state’s Home Minister Sukhbir Badal for not allowing Congress leader Dr Sahkeel Ahmed to meet with Bittu on Friday, Congress MLAs said that this showed the administrative hold of the present regime. Even basic facilities, which were to be provided to jail inmates, are being denied to Bittu, they alleged.
