Sangrur police claim to have arrested the main accused in the Joga cow slaughter incident on Wednesday. Mohammad Dilshad Haji,a resident of Bhawanigarh and his accomplice,Latif alias Tipu,a resident of Malerkotla were arrested from Jama Masjid area of New Delhi. SSP Sangrur H S Bhullar said that the accused would be presented in a local court,in Sangrur,on Thursday.
Meanwhile giving the details of the arrests SSP Sangrur H S Bhullar said,Our high- level investigation teams found that Haji along with Teepu and Hanraj a resident of Bhawanigarh and their business partner had hired the premises of this factory where they used to slaughter the animals and sell their hide for Rs 40 a kg in Uttar Pradesh. They then crushed the bones of the animals to make powder.
Hanraj is absconding. Further investigations revealed that Haji is a declared proclaimed offender and faces similar charges of cow slaughter. He was booked by the Malerkotla police in February 2009.
Story so far
On June 10,around 25 cow were found slaughtered on the premises of a closed factory situated in Joga village in Mansa district. Agitated residents broke down the walls of the factory and rescued some live cattle and set the factory on fire. Tension built up in the area as the residents demanded immediate arrest of the guilty. Acting swiftly curfew was imposed in this area and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal ordered suspension of SSP Sukhdev Singh.
