Seeking to spread wings in states outside Haryana, the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) has written to the Election Commission of India requesting to reserve its party symbol — the key — in the upcoming Assembly polls in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Delhi and Gujarat.

The party has also made the same request for municipal polls in the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Currently, the JJP, led by Dushyant Chautala has 10 MLAs in the 90-member Haryana Assembly. Dushyant is deputy CM in the alliance government with senior partner BJP .

Giving information about the letter written to EC, party president Ajay Chautala, said, “JJP has asked EC to reserve our party symbol for Assembly polls in six states. We have apprised EC that our party fulfils all the requisite norms for the upcoming Assembly polls and thus demand that our symbol — the key — should be allotted to us.”

“Our party symbol is symbol of our success. In Haryana, due to hard work of our party workers, we achieved great success in a very small duration of time. Within 11 months from the day we announced our party, JJP got recognition from the EC. In 2019, we secured victory in 10 Assembly constituencies of Haryana and bagged 16 per cent of the vote share,” said Chautala, who is a father of Dushyant Chautala.

The membership of the party is increasing everyday in all these poll-bound states. The effective style of functioning of Dushyant Chautala is being appreciated among the youth across the country. Several youngsters from Gujarat joined JJP in the recently held state-level executive committee meeting held in Panchkula.”
