Jeweller shot dead in Kharar

A day after a leading jewellery shop was robbed of Rs 1.75 crore in Panchkula,armed assailants shot dead a jeweller and sped away with his bag in Kharar on Wednesday night.

A day after a leading jewellery shop was robbed of Rs 1.75 crore in Panchkula,armed assailants shot dead a jeweller and sped away with his bag in Kharar on Wednesday night. The incident took place outside Gurdwara Kalgidhar Sahib around 8 pm.

Satinder Pal Singh,in his late 40s and a resident of Phase 3B2 in Mohali,was shot in the chest,Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jatinder Singh Aulakh told Newsline.

A profusely bleeding Satinder was rushed to the PGI,where he was declared dead on arrival,Kharar (City) Station House Officer Sub-Inspector (SI) Atul Soni said.

Satinder’s son Amrit Pal Singh was accompanying his father when the incident occurred but he escaped unhurt.

The assailants,reportedly three in number and all in their mid-20s,had their faces covered. They fired a shot when Satinder resisted their demand to hand over a bag that he was carrying,the SSP said.

The bag,however,contained only the keys of his shop,Kanchan Jewellers on Swami Ram Tirtha Marg,the SSP said,on the basis of the statement given by Amrit.

While the weapon used in the crime is believed to be a pistol,the motive behind the firing was snatching,said Aulakh,adding that the police in Chandigarh and Ropar had been alerted to seal all entry and exit points to Kharar and Mohali.

According to information,Satinder had opened a jewellery shop almost two years ago.
