The ongoing Jat agitation in various parts of Haryana spread to districts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan as well on Thursday.
While members of the All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) started a sit-in along NH-1 (New Delhi-Chandigarh) in Sonepat district of Haryana,sit-ins were also held along railway tracks in Bharatpur in Rajasthan, and Muzaffarnagar and Saharanpur in Uttar Police.
AIJASS president Yashpal Malik was detained by the UP Police and not allowed to reach Kapurpur, where a large number of protestors have camped at railway tracks.
I had met Home Ministry officials and other members of the AIJASS have met with Haryana government representatives. We are open to talks. If the government misbehaves or refuses to acknowledge our demands, the consequences will be tough for the Centre and the states, said Malik.
Meanwhile, rail traffic remained disrupted for the fourth consecutive day on the Delhi-Hisar stretch in Haryana. Similar disruption is likely in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
