Jail IG starts probe into Bibi’s ‘VVIP treatment’

The Punjab Police has began a probe into allegations that former state minister Bibi Jagir Kaur was being provided “VVIP treatment” at the Kapurthala Jail,where she is lodged in connection with her daughter Harpreet Kaur’s forcible abortion case.

The Punjab Police has began a probe into allegations that former state minister Bibi Jagir Kaur was being provided “VVIP treatment” at the Kapurthala Jail,where she is lodged in connection with her daughter Harpreet Kaur’s forcible abortion case.

IG (Prisons) Jagit Singh began the probe on late Wednesday night which continued till Thursday.

During his investigation,Singh recorded the statements of jail officials as well inmates. He also took records of the visitors who had met Bibi in the last one week,including on Sunday — according to norms,one cannot meet an inmate on Sundays in any jail across the country — and reports about the jail’s women ward getting LCD television and DTH connection. However,on Thursday as well,nearly three dozen people visited Bibi.

According to sources,jail superintendent S P Khanna,claimed that Bibi was not being given any preferential treatment and all rules were being followed.
