ITBP rowers claim three gold,one silver on Day 2

Indo Tibetan Border Police rowing team claimed three gold medals and one silver medal on the second day of the All India Police Water SportS Championship being held at Sukhna Lake.

In the 1000 M Single Scull event,constable Gayarshi Lal of Indo Tibetan Border Police claimed the gold medal with a time of four minutes and 10.70 seconds while the second spot was grabbed by constable Arwinder Singh of Punjab Police with a time of four minutes and 16.49 seconds. The bronze medal in the event went to constable David Singh of SSB with a timing of four minutes and 43.09 seconds.

In the 1000 M Double Scull event final ,the duo of constable Nitish Kumar and Gayarshi Lal of ITBP emerged as the winners with a time of three minutes and 36.50 seconds. The second spot was claimed by the Maharashtra Police team of constable Samadhan Gavali and Yogesh Labhade with a time of three minutes and 39.86 seconds. The third spot went to the team of Punjab Police comprising of constable Vakinder Kumar and Jagmeet Singh with a timing of three minutes and 45.34 seconds.

In the 1000 M Coxless Pair event,the team of ITBP comprising of constable Rajesh Kumar and Sushil Kumar claimed the gold medal with a time of three minutes and 50.49 seconds. The team of CRPF comprising of constable Rajender Singh and CS Sahoo claimed the silver medal clocking a time of three minutes and 56.15 seconds.

The team of Punjab Police consisting of constable Harkamjit Singh and Gurjeet Singh claimed the bronze medal with a time of four minutes and 10.94 seconds.

In the 1000 M Coxless Four event final,the top spot was grabbed by the CRPF team comprising constables CS Sahoo,Sharma Singh,Rajinder Singh and Tarsem Singh with a time of three minutes and 33.43 seconds.

The team of ITBP comprising of constables Rajesh Kumar,Sushil Kumar,Robin Mangar and Dharmender claimed the second spot with a time of three minutes and 45.12 seconds. The third spot went to the team of Punjab Police comprising of HC Lachman Singh,Constable Mangal Singh,Navdeep Singh and Vipin Kamboj with a time of three minutes and 53.73 seconds.

ITF futures qualifiers from today

CHANDIGARH: As many as six present and former Indian Davis Cup members and two reserve members of the team will be seen in action in the ITF men’s futures US$-15,000 tennis tournament being organised by Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association,at Tennis Stadium,Sector 10,Chandigarh,from April 29 to May 4.

The Qualifying rounds will be played on April 27 and 28. Players from five countries are participating in the tournament. They are India,United State of America (USA),Australia,Netherlands and Philippines. Yuki Bhambri is the top seed in the main draw in which 32 participants are in the singles event. Apart from him the other Indians who are taking part in the event are former CLTA trainees Sanam Singh and Vijayant Malik.

The single qualifying draw is of 48. 38 players have signed-in for the qualifying rounds that ended on Friday. Meanwhile,the wildcard entries have been given to Lakshit Sood,Ranjeet Singh,Pranav Suri and Ojas Rathi (all from India).

Dr. Jasjit Singh has been appointed the tournament director,while Puneet Gupta will be the tournament referee. The technical aspects of the tournament are being looked after by Gajendra Singh,Director Coaching & Development,CLTA.
