Several people on Thursday blocked the main road dividing Sectors 11 and 14 to stage a protest against the alleged police inaction in the murder of a Sector-14 resident. Family members and friends of a deceased girl,Sheetal, refused to cremate the body stating that the police had failed to arrest the accused.

The body of the girl was found hanging under mysterious circumstances at a Sector-11 house on Wednesday, where she was working as a domestic help. Relatives alleged foul play on the part of the employer of the girl, following which police registered a murder case against unidentified persons.

One of the relatives of the deceased girl,Mahesh, said,“It is a case of murder. Sheetal had gone to the Sector-11 house on Wednesday morning. Her employer did not inform us when the girl was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his house. He told the sister of the deceased that she had been taken to the hospital,as she complained of an ailment”.

Police said the girl was hospitalised on Wednesday afternoon and on Thursday morning the post-mortem was conducted at a Sector-6 hospital.

The protesters were later removed from the road by the police and a heavy police force was deployed to contain the irate mob. The protesters said that police were trying to hush up the case.

However,Sector-5 Police Station SHO Mukesh Kumar said that the police had registered a case and were investigating it. No arrests had been made,so far.

Some of the protesters even alleged that the girl was sexually assaulted before she was murder. Kumar said that everything would be clear once they received the post-mortem report.
