India-Pak trade: Kirti Kisan Union calls for reopening of Hussainiwala, Attari-Wagah corridors

The Kirti Kisan Union convened a district conference at Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall and called for the reopening of trade between India and Pakistan through the Attari-Wagah and Hussainiwala road corridors. The union sought permission to sell their produce directly without visa restrictions.

They also denounced the central government’s decision of imposing a $1200 per tonne condition on basmati rice exports, demanding its immediate withdrawal.

Raminder Singh Patiala, press secretary of the union, said that various segments of the society rallied behind the Kirti Kisan Union’s campaign and participated in the conference.

Addressing the gathering, union’s state vice-president Jatinder Singh Chhina and Santokh Singh Sandhu said that the country’s leaders should foster friendly relations instead of stoking enmity between India and Pakistan. “Trade is a crucial link. In 2019, the India removed Pakistan from its list of trade-friendly nations and imposed a 200% regulatory duty on non-essential goods. This action not only disrupted trade with Pakistan via Punjab’s road corridors but also dealt a severe blow to Punjab’s interests,” said Chhina.
