Water bodies built in various parks of Panchkula are in a state of distress. Having no vigil on the maintenance of the parks, these water bodies, which are meant for adding charm to the beauty of a park, have turned into pools of dirty water. These water bodies have not been cleaned for months due to which layers of algae has started growing on their surface.

The condition of a water body situated in Vatika Vihar,in Sector 5,Panchkula is in a pitiable condition with garbage floating on the surface. Owing to the garbage and layers of algae, the water has turned into a muddy green slime.

Dinesh,a resident of Sector 5 said,“Whenever I get time I come to Vatika garden as it is very close to my house. But the condition of the water body is horrible. No one pays heed to its cleaning or management. People throw garbage in it and care takers of the park do not bother to do their job.”

A similar condition can be witnessed in City Fountain garden situated adjacent to Vatika garden. The water pond built in the middle of the garden has heaps of garbage and algae floating in the water body. The fountain installed in the garden does not work. Situated in Sector 5,fountain garden is amongst the most visited gardens of Panchkula.

“Fountain garden is known for its fountain but the condition is pitiable. For months it has not been cleaned due to which a lot of garbage has collected in these water reservoirs,” said Santosh,a regular visitor to fountain garden.
