With the lack of facilities in creches of the city, children are sleeping and sitting on the floor in the freezing weather. The creches are also hampered by a shortage of chairs, toys, mats and playing space leaving the children with little to do.
One meal is provided to the children in a day and it usually comprises of dalia, khichdi, among others. The incharge of the creche in Sector 19 said the children who come here are those with working parents. Around 30 children between the age of one to five years are left in the creche, whose timings are from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.
A visit to the creches shows that small children are huddled up on mats covered with blankets. While some of them provide chairs and tables, many others do not even have this facility.
An official, said it was not possible to provide beds to so many kids. The children are so small that they usually fall down from the beds. The government gives us yearly grants for toys which is not sufficient. Every creche has 30 to 35 children and its tough to provide toys to every kid. If parents want to give toys to their children then they can. There is no provision of supervision which is the reason of neglected state of creches, he added.
