The Chandigarh Police Operations Cell has busted an illegal LPG cylinder refilling station at Dariya village and arrested eight accused.
The accused — Gagandeep Singh, Rajesh, Vineet, Arjun, Deepak, Murari, Ranjit Singh, and Arjun Kumar — have been booked in an FIR registered under Section 287 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act at Industrial Area police station, Chandigarh.
Acting on a tip-off, the police team recovered 545 LPG cylinders, 24 refilling/pump motors, three weighing machines, and arrested eight individuals involved in the illicit activity.
According to officials, on May 14, while patrolling near a wine shop in Makhan Majra area, the team received information about unauthorised gas refilling being conducted at a hidden location. The raid was executed immediately, and eight people were found refilling domestic gas cylinders into commercial ones without any safety protocols, thereby endangering lives and property.
Initial investigations revealed that the accused were illegally sourcing cheaper domestic LPG and transferring it into commercial cylinders to sell at higher rates in the Tricity area. The Food and Supply Department has been notified, and further investigation is ongoing, said the police.
Recently, two children were injured due to similar illegal gas activities at Mauli Jagran.
