The Dharamshala court on Tuesday dismissed the anticipatory bail application moved by the absconding prime accused in the IAS impersonation case. Pooja Sharma,a native of Kangra district,along with four accomplices,had allegedly duped a Mohali based doctor of Rs 45 lakh. She had been moving around in a Ford Ikon car,with a red light atop the vehicle,posing as a Himachal Pradesh cadre IAS officer,police said.
Once the court of Additional District Judge,J K Sharma dismissed her bail application,the Special Investigation Unit of the Himachal Pradesh police immediately began conducting raids at various suspected hideouts.
Speaking to The Indian Express,an SIT member said,The bail has been dismissed and we are looking for the accused now. She is believed to be hiding somewhere in Kangra district and we have got certain vital clues on her whereabouts and hope to nab her soon.
Pooja Sharma,her accomplice Mohit Sharma – a former lecturer in a prominent Chandigarh government college and three others were booked by the Himachal police on charges of cheating,fraud and forgery following a complaint lodged by Rajiv Bedi,a Mohali-based oncologist.
According to Bedi,Pooja offered to help him buy land at Palampur to set up a nursing college. She showed him the land and allegedly forged land documents pertaining to ownership and took around Rs 45 lakh from him. After a few weeks,Bedi discovered that he had been duped and the land documents were fake. He kept looking for the accused,but failed to trace her,following which he moved a complaint with the Himachal Pradesh police and a case was registered against Pooja and the others.
While the other accused have already been arrested,Pooja is absconding. According to investigating officials,she has committed similar fraud including on a Ludhiana based doctor,whom she allegedly duped of Rs. 9.5 lakh.
