With the possibility of the Election Commission taking a call on the poll schedule for Himachal Pradesh by the end of the month,the Congress has decided to begin its process for selection of candidates from Monday afternoon.
A meeting of the Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) has been convened at New Delhi,where state Congress President Virbhadra Singh and other leaders will hold discussions on recommendations sent by the district Congress committees and block Congress committees. More than 900 people have applied for the tickets.
The other key party members who will be attending Mondays meeting include PCC president Viplove Thakur,CLP leader Vidya Stokes,former PCC chief Kaul Singh Thakur,AICC general secretary Asha Kumari,CWC member Dhani Ram Shandil,ex-MP Chander Kumar and former minister G S Bali. Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma,who is not in the country,will not attend.
The meeting called for Monday is to complete certain broad formalities and make a wide appraisal of those who have applied for tickets. Constituencies,where no one else has applied for the ticket against sitting members,could be presumed as clear. But,we will have two or three rounds of meetings before the list goes to the high commands screening committee, AICC general secretary Birender Singh,who is the party incharge for Himachal Pradesh told The Indian Express in Delhi
There are six constituencies where only one name has been recommended. These include Kaul Singh Thakur,Vidya Stokes,Sukhwinder Sukhu,Mukesh Angihotri,Harshvardan Chauhan and Surinder Bhardwaj.
