Holi tragedies in Chandigarh, Mohali: Youth stabbed to death after objecting to egg throwing, minor dies after clash

They said that the accused were yet to be arrested and demanded strict action against all involved.

In two separate incidents two youths lost their lives in Chandigarh and Mohali on Holi.

In the first incident, a youth was allegedly stabbed to death in Sector-25 after he objected to throwing of eggs.

According to police, the incident took place on around 7pm on Friday when the victim, Ankit, a resident of Sector 25, returned home after playing Holi. While he was taking a shower, some youths started throwing eggs at his bathroom from the rooftop.

Ankit stepped out and saw a few youths from a neighboring house throwing eggs. When he asked them to stop, an argument broke out. In the heat of the moment, the accused pulled out a knife and stabbed Ankit two to three times in the abdomen before fleeing.

Ankit was rushed to Government Multi Speciality Hospital (GMSH) Sector-16 in a critical condition and was later referred to PGI due to the severity of his injuries. He succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning. Following the incident, a complaint was lodged with the Sector-11 police.

Police said that on the complaint of Sourav, a resident of Sector 25, the FIR was registered against Kunal, Mani, and Modu, who allegedly attacked the complainant and his friend Ankit alias Kaka with a knife. During the attack, Kunal stabbed Ankit, causing severe injuries, said police.

Even though an investigation has been initiated into the matter, Ankit’s family accused the police of inaction and sluggishness in handling the case. They said that the accused were yet to be arrested and demanded strict action against all involved.

In the second incident, a group of juveniles stabbed 17-year-old Akash to death near a water tank in Balongi.

Police said that the incident took place around 1pm on Holi.

According to reports, two days before the incident, Akash, son of Rajinder, had an altercation with the juveniles. Holding a grudge, the group attacked him during the festival, leading to his death.

Police said that after being fatally injured, Akash tried to escape but collapsed a short distance away and died on the spot. His family rushed him to the Civil Hospital in Mohali, where doctors declared him dead.

Balongi SHO Amandeep Kamboj said that a murder case has been registered against the accused, and five juveniles have been detained. He added that they have started investigating the case and more individuals could be involved.
