More than 70,000 police personnel of Punjab Government got a Holi bonanza with the Punjab government approving a cash-less insurance scheme for them and their families and dependents, replacing the cumbersome medical reimbursement scheme.
A government spokesman on Monday said that in a first of its kind initiative in the country, each policeman has been insured for Rs 2 lakh per year and this insurance would also cover surgeries having less than 24 hour hospitalisation in the cases of Dialysis,Chemotherapy,Radiotherapy,Eye Surgery,Lithotripsy,Tonsillectomy and Coronary Angiography. He also added that in addition to this cash-less insurance cover, policemen would continue to get the monthly fixed medical allowance as per existing norms.
Punjab government has already sanctioned Rs 25 crore for this scheme and the Punjab Police has already invited expression of interest from reputed insurance companies to handle this scheme.
The insurer would be required to form a network of hospitals across the state of Punjab and union territory of Chandigarh in particular with at least two empanelled hospitals in each district. It would be imperative for the insurance company to empanel leading super specialty hospitals in all districts headquarters for this scheme.
