Hit by van,Nadaun doctor dies; family suspects foul play

Dr R S Minhas,who ran a private hospital in Nadaun,died after he was hit by a rashly-driven vehicle on Tuesday night.

Dr R S Minhas,who ran a private hospital in Nadaun,died after he was hit by a rashly-driven vehicle on Tuesday night. His family have suspected foul play as his body was found far away from the spot where he was hit by a Maruti van around 10.30 pm.

Dr Minhas was on a stroll after dinner,a routine he had been following for years. He belonged to a prominent family of doctors in Shimla,with most of its members in the medical profession. His brother Dr S S Minhas,is the head of surgery department at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) and Hospital here.

Hamirpur Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh said the police were investigating the case from all angles and had lodged an FIR under Section 304 of the IPC.

The driver of the vehicle,Sandeep Kumar,has been arrested as he was overpowered by the locals after the accident.

“I have told the SP to take into consideration all facts,which the family,especially the deceased doctor’s wife,have brought to the fore. The guilty will not be spared,” assured Director General of Police D S Manhas,who was approached by the family to seek a thorough probe.

“We suspect it to be a case of murder and want the police to fairly and impartially investigate the case,” said Dr S S Minhas. Dr Minhas leaves behind his wife and two sons.
