The Himachal Pradesh cabinet on Monday approved a new reward scheme for panchayats to encourage community participation in the implementation of development projects and protection of public assets. The scheme,named Atal Adarsh Gram Puruskar Yojna,will also make gram panchayats accountable towards the people.
The best performing gram panchayats will be adjudged at the state,district,sub-division and block levels and given a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh (state),Rs 10 lakh (district),Rs 5 lakh (sub-division) and Rs 2 lakh (block) respectively. While these rewards will be given on August 15,evaluation of selected gram panchayats will take place between March 25 to April 15,every year.
Meanwhile,the cabinet also decided to enhance fixed medical allowance of state government employees/pensioners from Rs 100 to Rs 250 per month with effect from April 1. While this will benefit over 80,000 employees and pensioners,the decision will entail an expenditure of Rs 14.40 crore on the state exchequer. Mondays meeting also okayed a proposal to enhance fixed travelling allowance for health supervisors from Rs 350 to Rs 410 per month.

Monthly financial assistance/pension to ex-servicemen and their widows hiked from Rs 330 to Rs 400. For World War II soldiers and their widows,the amount has been increased from Rs 500 to Rs 750 from.
