Police begin preparing list of weapon holders with notorious past
In compliance with the Election Commission (EC) guidelines,the Chandigarh Police are all set to start compiling the list of arm holders,with a criminal past,who will have to submit their weapons before elections.
Arm holders with no criminal past have been exempted from the list that is likely to be completed by the coming week.
Senior Superintendent of Police S S Srivastava said,The law abiding citizens can keep their weapons with them. We are all set to start the process of compiling the list and it will be ready by next week. The lists will,thereafter,be dispatched to all the police elections.

He added that the police personnel will communicate to the arm holders the date on which they will have to deposit their weapons. Sources with the police department maintain that a weeks time will be allowed for depositing weapons at the respective police stations.
We are keeping a close tab on criminals. They may try to smuggle in illegal weapons to disrupt elections. Such criminals will be nabbed soon, added the SSP.
The SSP said they have sought details from different gun houses about the weapons and ammunitions available in their inventory.
The decision has been taken after anti-social elements stole 80 guns from a gun house in Hoshiarpur. We are keeping an account of the weapons and ammunition in the city before the elections, he added.
