16 students from Haryana to be brought back from strife-hit Manipur tonight, says CM Khattar

A spokesperson said five of the students are at NIT, while eight of them study at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) and three are students of the National Sports University (NSU).

The Haryana government will bring back on Monday 16 students from the state who are currently stuck in strife-hit Manipur.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who is personally monitoring the situation of the students, said Monday, “So far, we have identified 16 students from Haryana who are studying in Manipur’s various educational institutes. All 16 will be brought back by tonight. The aircraft carrying 16 students will land in New Delhi late in the evening on a flight from Manipur via Kolkata. Our government is committed to their safety and security and ensuring their return.”

A spokesperson for the Haryana government said five of the students are at NIT, while eight of them study at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) and three are students of the National Sports University (NSU). “All 16 students are safe and there is nothing to worry about,” the officer said.

Officials from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) are in constant touch with the Manipur CMO and are regularly monitoring the situation. “The officials concerned were directed to ensure the safe and timely return of all these students. A list of the 16 students has been prepared. Besides these 16, if there is any other student who wishes to return, he/she shall also be brought back,” the spokesperson added.

Officials said the students boarded an IndiGo flight from Imphal around 2.45 pm and landed in Agartala at 3.35 pm. Their next flight was scheduled to depart from Agartala at 6.15 pm and land in Kolkata at 7.10 pm. From Kolkata, they would board another flight at 8.55 pm and land at Delhi airport at 11.10 pm on Monday. From Delhi airport, the students will proceed to their respective native places across Haryana.
