The Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB) has launched a “podcast series”, a first-of-its-kind initiative, which will act as a bridge between the public and the police, offering information from ground-level operatives who are at the heart of this enforcement effort.

In its latest edition, O P Singh, Director General, HSNCB, hosted two deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) from HSNCB to talk about two of the most pressing challenges confronting the anti-drug drive in Haryana — the rising misuse of pharmaceutical drugs as affordable alternatives to hard narcotics, and the complex network of inter-state drug trafficking.

Singh offered listeners a rare glimpse into the operational realities of drug enforcement — the patterns, tactics, and human costs that rarely appear in conventional news reports.

The podcast highlighted two major drug-related concerns in Haryana – growing misuse of pharmaceutical drugs and codeine-based syrups; and inter-state drug trafficking, a pressing issue due to Haryana’s geographical position. The officers highlighted the challenges that they are facing in tracking “digital payment systems, SIM box frauds, fake identities” that are being used by offenders in the illegal trafficking of narcotics.

“This podcast effort marks a paradigm shift in how police-citizen engagement is approached in India. There is no better way to gain public confidence than to speak directly, truthfully, and transparently. These podcasts allow people to hear from those who are not just in uniform, but in the thick of action. What they say is not filtered through headlines, agendas, or studio debates — it is truth from ground zero,” DGP OP Singh said.

“This medium also serves as a morale booster for field operatives, whose painstaking efforts often go unnoticed. By giving them a platform to speak, the podcast reinforces the idea that every link in the enforcement chain matters — and is accountable not just to the department, but to the people they serve. Policing is not just about catching the bad guys. It is about understanding the problem in its totality, and involving society in the solution.”

The next edition of the podcast is expected to feature officers working on rehabilitation and de-addiction initiatives, continuing the Bureau’s effort to present a 360-degree view of its anti-drug mission.

On July 10, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini chaired a meeting of the state police’s top brass during which the issue of drug abuse was also discussed in detail. In that meeting, Saini had directed officials to implement strict measures to control both the supply and consumption of narcotics.

Saini had also emphasised his government’s commitment to protecting the youth from falling into the trap of addiction and called for a coordinated and robust campaign. He had also asked officers that drug-related cases at police stations be regularly reviewed, and the prosecution process should be expedited to ensure swift punishment for offenders.
