Haryana govt urged to allot Rs 10 lakh to kin of victims of accidents caused by cattle

“Panchkula is one of the most affected districts. Leave the rural areas of Panchkula, even the urban places are not untouched by this menace. The problem is much in the trans-Ghaggar sectors of Panchkula,” advocate Bansal says.

“There is an urgent need to implement the provisions of Section 9, 10, 11 of the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act 2015 and other laws applicable in letter and spirit by the Government of Haryana and local authorities there under the problem of stray cattle majority of which are cows throughout Haryana, especially in Panchkula. The stray cattle menace is frightful affecting the day-to-day life of the common man,” advocate Bansal stated in the memorandum.

In September 2020, Shiwalik Vikas Manch issued a legal notice to the government for not doing enough to tackle the stray cattle menace in the state.

According to advocate Bansal, the Haryana government has, on the other hand, boosted its cow welfare and protection schemes and collected crores of rupees in the name of cow cess.

In March, five people, including two women, were injured when a stray bull charged towards them at Raipur Rani in Panchkula. They were standing at a local bus stop. In February, 2020, a motorcyclist, Shehbaz Khan, 34, was killed after hitting stray cattle in Sector 25.
