The extra coaching classes for the economically backward students which were supposed to be started after the beginning of the academic session in the non-model schools, are finally set to see the light of the day.
The education department initiated the move to begin extra coaching classes for students from the underprivileged or economically weaker sections of the non-model government schools in the city. All such schools have already received circulars from the department to send the list of the selected students who would attend these classes. Under the programme, the students of Classes IX,X,XI and XII are to be given extra classes for two hours daily.
According to Ravinder Kaur,Principal of Government Senior Secondary School,Behlana said,We got the circular from the Education Department, asking to send the list of the number of students who would undertake the classes. We have already prepared the list of the economically backward students but we are waiting for the exams to finish,so that we could start with our classes.
Usha Garg,vice-principal at GSSS,Kaimbvala said,As soon as the semester exams will get over, well start with our extra coaching classes, probably from September 12. We have also prepared the list of the students. We have kept 12 sections, where we will take the classes and in each class, there will be 25 students.
We have a huge number of students who belong to the underprivileged section. We will adjust the timings of the classes as it would suit the students. The teachers concerned have already prepared the time tables for these classes. The teachers prefer to cover all the subjects in the classes,as the main objective of providing these students extra coaching classes is to enhance their academic potential as they dont get the adequate support from home or elsewhere, said Harneet Kaur, principal of Government Senior Secondary School,Dhanas.
