Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Friday said that gangster Goldy Brar, the mastermind behind the brutal murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala, has been detained in the United States and will “definitely be brought to India” and be in the custody of the Punjab Police “very soon”.
“Being the Head of the State, I tell you that a big gangster sitting in Canada, Goldy Brar, has been detained in America. It is confirmed news. California police have detained him. They have contacted the Indian government and the Punjab Police and informed them about his detention. They have asked whether he needs to be deported,” Mann told reporters in Ahmedabad.
A native of Faridkot in Punjab, Brar, whose real name is Satinderjit Singh, had gone to Canada on a student visa in 2017. A key member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, Brar had claimed the responsibility for the murder of Moosewala, who was killed in hail of bullets in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29 this year.
“We will definitely bring Goldy Brar to India as per the treaty with America so that the families that have lost their sons and daughters find some solace. Brar was the main mastermind (in Moosewala murder), and there are others as well whose records are with us,” Mann said.
The Punjab CM said Brar used to get his work done through Pakistan using a gang. “We are discussing the issue at international level so that others are brought here. They will be interrogated and there may be more revelations,” he said, adding that Punjab Police had recently got a red corner notice issued against him after taking up the matter with the Union Home Ministry.
A red corner notice allows the arrest and detention of a fugitive abroad.
A senior Punjab police officer said information they have received so far suggested that Goldy Brar was likely arrested in California for some “violation” he committed there.
Earlier, Brar had also claimed responsibility for the murder of Dera follower Pardeep Singh Kataria in Kotkapura last month. An accused in the 2015 Bargari sacrilege case, Kataria was out on bail and was shot dead at his shop by a group of six on November 11.
Claiming the responsibility of the murder through a social media post, Brar had said that “justice had not been delivered in the sacrilege case even after seven years of the incident and despite governments changing thrice in state”. He had further said whoever disrespects any religion, will meet the same fate. “The Hindu-Sikh brothers have taken this revenge together because Guru Sahib is common to all,” read the social media post.
Prior to that, while claiming responsibility for Mooosewala’s murder, Brar, un a Facebook post, said, “Sachin Bishnoi Dhattaranwali, Lawrence Bishnoi, and I are behind the killing of Sidhu Moosewala.” The gangster had claimed that he killed Moosewala to avenge the death of Youth Akali Dal leader Vicky Middukhera.
Brar is also involved in an extortion racket being run in Punjab and is believed to have had a hand in the murder of Youth Congress leader Gurlal Pehalwan.
