Hostels for canines are mushrooming in Chandigarh and Panchkula

Shobit Sahni and his wife Shefali live with their two dogs – Chestnut and Caramel. Every time he and his wife have to go out of station, they were faced with the problem of where to leave their ‘babies’. Not any longer, they know that that they can leave their canines at a kennel.

“At first,we did not warm up to the idea. We also didn’t like the method with which dogs were handled or cleanliness facilities at the boarding centers. Finally,we zeroed in on to the one which suited our budget and was to our liking. Now we send our ‘babies’ to the boarding whenever we have to go out of the city and that too without any tension,” says Shefali Sahni.

For the past two years,a number of pet hostels in Chandigarh and Panchkula are offering personal and caring atmosphere to dogs while their owners are away. More and more dog owners are being attracted to and trying to find their dog a place in these boarding centres, especially during the holiday season.

“These are professional trainers and handlers who take much better care of my dog than I can do. So there is no hesitation, rather I advise all my friends in similar situations to do the same,” says Yogesh Chopra,a property dealer.

The pet hostels give a whole package deal to the owners like a beauty parlour, training centre, grooming facilities and general health care facilities. The rate of keeping a dog on a daily basis ranges from Rs 300 to Rs 500.

Shiv Kaushal, owner of Dogsplay Centre in Sector 7,says,“Increasingly people prefer to keep their pets in hostels while they are on a vacation. This ensures that they do not have to worry about their prized possessions. We take care of the diets of the dogs and walks are given a great deal of importance.”
