With sanitary ware vanishing within days at the new block at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH),Sector 32,the authorities have come up with a rather simple solution the toilets are locked for most part of the day.
Speaking to Newsline,Professor Raj Bahadur,Director Principal of the GMCH,said: This is not the first time that we have encountered such petty crimes. The problem spreads across the hospital. We have locked the toilets in the new block as it is functioning partially and the rush is limited.
Even as it is routine for officials to catch drug addicts stealing equipment to make a quick buck, incidents of the hospital staff indulging in the petty crime are not new. In fact, the crime rate is so high that most toilets in the hospital have been stripped bare of taps and other steel fittings, say officials.
During the construction of the block,we ensured that every item is of good quality. Now,when people want to make off with these,I think it is better to block access to the facility as long as the things are new, remarked an official.
