Though the state Congress has no direct role to play in the SGPC elections, but the party is the only thing in the minds of SAD leaders during their campaign for the September 18 polls.
Earlier,Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal was seen attacking the Congress in his speeches, now it is the turn of his brother-in-law and Youth Akali Dal chief Bikram Singh Majithia, who on Wednesday called upon the people to give no credence to the anti-Sikh Congress, which had been trying to grab the gurdwaras by hook or crook.
While addressing a series of rallies for the SGPC,Majithia alleged the Congress was acting as the proxy and fighting the elections in the garb of the Panthic Morcha. How can this party take part in Gurdwara elections when it is responsible for the worst ever attack on Sikh gurdwaras and its hands are soaked in blood due to its leaders direct involvement in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, he asked.
He added: Now,through Khalsa Dal or other agents, the Congress is trying to grab the control of the gurdwaras. You all know what is this Panthic Morcha. Give them a befitting reply. This is not for the first time that the Congress is trying to take part in SGPC elections through proxy. They had done so in the name of Khalsa Dal or Sadh Sangat Board in the past. They were badly defeated and the same is set to happen this time as well.
Majithia also slammed PPCC chief Captain Amarinder Singh for using the office of his wife,Minister of State for External Affairs Parneet Kaur,to sabotage the SGPC elections. The capt must understand that the people are not fools and he cannot go fooling them any further, he said.
