A special CBI court on Tuesday directed the CBI to furnish a copy of the transcript and the recorded conversation which allegedly took place between City SP Desh Raj,arrested in a bribery case, and Inspector Anokh Singh, the complainant.

The orders were passed after Desh Raj’s defence counsel made a request in this regard. The court directed the CBI to give the copy by October 26.

Vishal Garg Narwana, the counsel for the accused, argued that he be given a copy of the transcript so as to enable him to prepare his defence.

However, the CBI opposed the request. “The case is in the initial stage of investigation. The transcript,pre-trap memo and post-trap memo are to be used for examination of material witnesses. Hence,we cannot supply the same to the accused,” argued public prosecutor Manmohan Sharma.

He apprehended that the accused IPS officer was a senior police officer and highly influential. He might influence or interfere with the investigation in the case.
