In the end Sachit Malhotra,who managed to keep his nerves in tricky situations,emerged triumphant to take the boy’s Under-18 title on Monday. Sachit,the giant-killer of the tournament,defeated Rohit Dhiman of Shishu Niketan School 7-6(7-3),6-4 in a well-contested final of the YMCA Total Tennis Tournament.
In the opening set,Sachit,a trainee of YMCA Total Tennis Academy,took an early lead of 4-3 but Rohit clawed back into the match to level the score at 4-all. Both the players went neck to neck till 6-6 but Sachit stamped his class in the tie-breaker. Playing some superb groundstrokes from the baseline,Sachit captured the first set 7-6 (7-3).
In the second set,Rohit,looking to stay into the match,played some spectecular shot and managed to hold Sachit at 4-4. However,in the ninth game,Sachit broke from the shackles and hit back-to-back winners to keep his opponent guessing. In the final game,Rohit took a lead of 30-0 in the 10th game but Sachit came back strongly to win the remaining points to seal the match that lasted 150 minutes,and the title.
