The garbage collectors collected outside the Garbage Processing Plant at Dadumajra on Friday and did not allow the garbage trucks to enter the complex. While trucks entered the plant from 7.30 am to 10.30 am,thereafter the garbage collectors sat on a dharna there.
Over the past few days,the garbage collectors had been sitting outside the office of the Municipal Corporation in Sector 17. After a meeting on Thursday with the members of the Finance and Contract Committee,the garbage collectors had agreed to end their agitation if a suitable solution was found.
A meeting of the garbage collectors was held in the morning after which they decided to stop the garbage from entering the plant where it is processed.
Officials at the plant said 100 trucks were received by them in the morning. Thereafter,the trucks were stopped from entering by the protesters. They raised slogans outside the premises of the plant. The members of the F&CC had asked for 15 days time to resolve the issue. The collectors are holding protest against the pilot project started in Sector 22. They also met Mayor Raj Bala Malik.
