Gangrape: Accused remanded in judicial custody

A local court on Monday remanded in judicial custody three engineering students who had allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl on Saturday on the road to Saketri.

The three accused,Kulwinder alias Prashant,Monty and Mohit were arrested by the police on Sunday. The trio are engineering students of Polytechnic College,Sector 26.

A police official told Newsline,“The father of the main accused in the case,Prashant,works as a peon in the Auditor General of Haryana’s office. Monty is the son of a mechanic in Sector 29 and Mohit’s father works in the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU)”.

The victim was contacted by Prashant on her mobile phone about 20 days ago. She met the accused on Saturday evening and went to the Sector 42 lake with him. This was the first time that the accused had met the victim.

Prashant later took her to Sukhna Lake where the two met Monty and Mohit. The four of them then left for Saketri on the pretext of visiting the temple. The accused raped the 17-year-old in the forest area on the road leading to the temple.

On the way back,the girl told Prashant to leave her and go. But the accused insisted that he will drop her home. As the three accused reached near the Police Station Sector 26,the victim jumped off the bike as it slowed on a turn. The three accused fled.

A passerby spotted her and called the police. She was rushed to a government hospital where her medical examination confirmed rape. The three accused were arrested the next day after they were identified by the victim.
