A group of six armed thieves,which included two women,struck at a house late Monday evening and tied up the family members in a bathroom before looting their valuables,including jewellery and cash.
According to sources,the incident happened late Monday evening when a group of armed men struck at the house of a city businessman,Rajeev Garg. Garg,who runs a poultry business,was out of his house when the incident took place. Sources said that two women in the gang first knocked on the door of Gargs house in Sector 4 in the city,and then when the domestic helper answered it,four men armed with sharp-edged weapons attacked her. The gang of thieves took the family members one by one to the bathroom and tied them before looting their valuables. Sources said that the looted items include some jewellery,a laptop,an iPad and some mobile phones,said to be worth over Rs 5 lakh.
Sources said that in the house,besides the domestic helper and teenage son of Garg,his accountant was also present.
The thieves struck at around 9.30 in the evening when Garg was outside and managed to loot the house within an hour. After the incident,police officials rushed to the spot and were verifying the facts till the reports last came in. Sources said that the entire theft seemed to have been planned meticulously,and the gang seemed to have been watching the household.
According to sources,after the gang of thieves had left,the boy found one of his cell phones which the thieves could not lay their hands on and called up his father,who reached home at around 10.45 pm. Garg later called the police and a police party was rushed from the local police station,sources said.
Sources also add that a friend of Gargs son came to their residence as the thieves were trying to loot the house,but after he found them,he tried to raise an alarm. The thieves,however,managed to overpower him and also tied him up in the bathroom.
