Comedy is his middle name. “Even if I go to a condolence meeting, people expect me to share a joke,” Johnny Lever admits with a laugh. The actor was in the city at a workshop held at Ryan International School,Sector 49. Interestingly,Ryan has joined hands with the Johnny Lever Film Academy to form a new company ‘Johnny Lever Ryan Film Academy.’ The Academy will hunt for talent throughout India and proposes to provide courses like film-making,editing,acting,dance,dubbing hoping to prepare prospective talent into confident professionals trained to face the camera. The dance workshops will commence in Chandigarh shortly. Each workshop’s duration is three months and includes courses like western dance,Bollywood dance, salsa, jazz and hip hop. “We have tied up with Dance India Dance on Zee TV where first preference will be given to students of our academy,” shares Johnny. As for the tie-up with Ryan School,Lever adds,“Confidence is required to face the camera and acting classes prepare one for it. In this case, there is no need to go to an acting institute for the institute has come to the school itself.”

These days, comedy is the most watched genre on screen but Johnny is concerned about the falling standards of comedy that is being served to family audiences. “I prefer only ‘vegetarian’ comedy as it has a lot of variety and people can enjoy it together as a family,” Johnny’s on a sabbatical these days, enjoying spending time with family and is looking forward to new work and a renewed vigour. So,we’ll soon see him in films like ‘All The Best’,Priyadarshan’s ‘De Dana Dan’ and Vivek Vaswani’s ‘Dulha Mil Gaya’ starring Shah Rukh Khan. The actor who admires Paresh Rawal for his perfection and versatility plans to venture into film production in the future,“I am not tired. I want to do many more roles and also hope to produce films that are entertaining and succeed in giving a message as well,” he says. Johnny agrees that making people laugh is no laughing matter itself but an extremely difficult job. We agree!
