The meeting of the Executive Committee of Federation of Sectors Welfare Association of Chandigarh (FOSWAC) was held in the community centre in Sector 35, Chandigarh, here on Sunday. The members discussed the issue of ‘door to door collection of garbage and likely hike in rates by the Municipal Corporation’. “Primarily, it is the duty of MC to arrange for garbage collection. Since MC has failed to do its duty, the residents welfare associations made their own arrangement in their respective sectors. The rates are fixed by the RWAs and the work is done under their direct supervision,” the members said.
Chairman Baljinder Bittu said that MC is unnecessarily interfering with the door to door garbage collection scheme run by many Resident welfare Associations. He criticised the MC for its unwanted interference even though the residents are happy with the present system of door to door garbage collection. He said that the FOSWAC will oppose the move with all possible legal remedies. “Our request is, either the MC should float the tender for this job worth crores or they should handle the process directly under them in consultation with RWAs,” Bittu added.
The members also stated that the issue of conversion of Leasehold to freehold announced by the administration is useless and against the interest of the owners of leasehold properties.
