Former SAD sarpanch Balwinder Singh shot dead by neighbour in Amritsar village: Police
Former sarpanch and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Balwinder Singh was shot in Amritsar's Saidupur village by a neighbour who had allegedly threatened him over car parking.
The police said there was a dispute between Balwinder and his neighbour Shubham Masih.
Former sarpanch and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Balwinder Singh was shot dead by his neighbour on Monday night at Saidupur in Amritsar district’s Raja Sansi area, the police said.
The police said there had been a dispute between Balwinder and his neighbour Shubham Masih over car parking.

“The dispute on the night of the incident began over a ladder that Balwinder Singh had placed against an electric pole to repair a light. Shubham pushed away the ladder. He then pulled out his licensed pistol and opened fire,” said Baghel Singh, the investigating officer. “Shubham fired three bullets at Balwinder Singh, killing him on the spot.”
Balwinder Singh’s son Amritpal Singh told the media that there had been no communication between his family and Shubham. “About a month ago, they broke our car windows. Even then we filed a complaint with the police. He had also issued threats at the time,” he said.
Amritpal added that electricity had been cut off in the area on the night of the incident. “An electrician had come to fix the electricity and a ladder was placed inside the house. Shubham came and knocked the ladder down. When my father stepped outside, Shubham fired seven shots with his licensed revolver. Three bullets struck my father, leading to his death,” he added.

The police said that Shubham fled the scene after the shooting. They have launched proceedings against both Shubham and his wife, based on the statements of Balwinder’s family members.
The police have also secured CCTV footage relevant to the case.
