Though the nominee promised suitable reward to his gunmen to be part of his plan, which was aimed at gaining publicity and sympathy from electorates, the cops instead reported the matter to DSP Khaira.

Khaira, after consulting the SSP,lodged a daily dairy report and sent a detailed report to the ECI through Returning Officer-cum-Sub-Divisional Magistrate Puneet Goyal and Deputy Commissioner Prabhjot Singh Mand.

Also, the two gunmen were shifted from Sharma’s security duty and replaced with two other cops, who were issued strict directions to thwart any such bid planned by the candidate.

“We had taken legal opinion from our District Attorney, but since no direct offence was made,we lodged a DDR and reported the matter to ECI,” the DSP said.
