With the much awaited Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class XII results being declared today,girls continued to prove their mettle this year as well. Like in the last three years,the overall highest percentage of 98 per cent (Commerce) in the city has once again been secured by a girl student.
The performance of city government schools,this year,however,remained less impressive with only one government school student featuring in the list of stream-wise toppers. Last year two out of four toppers were from government schools.
A total of 7,944 students who appeared in the exam from government schools of whom 6,443 students passed. The overall pass percentage of these schools moved down to 81.11 per cent this year from 82.57 per cent last year.
According to the data concerning the class XII results released by the Board,the overall pass percentage in the region turned out to be 80 per cent this year,nearly the same as last years (79.9 per cent). However,there has been a decrease in the pass percentage of both boys (69.14 per cent) and girls (82.44 per cent) this year,from last years 75.8 per cent among boys and 85.72 per cent in girls.
A total of 1,31,555 students appeared in the exam from the Panchkula region. Of these 77,778 were boys and 52,777 were girls. While the passing percentage of city government schools has decreased by 1.2 percentage points this year,that of Kendriya Vidyalayas,independent schools and even Novodaya Vidyalaya have improved this year compared to last years performance.
