Chandigarh: Only five turn up for auction of remaining liquor vends now

Now, after the failed auction, the excise and taxation department has decided to slash the reserve price by six to 10 per cent for the remaining vends.

In yet another jolt to the Chandigarh Administration, for the third time in a row, only five takers came forward for the auction of the remaining 41 liquor vends. Chandigarh has been struggling to auction its liquor vends, failure of which it has been attributing to the Punjab liquor policy.

Now, after the failed auction, the excise and taxation department has decided to slash the reserve price by six to 10 per cent for the remaining vends.

On Monday, after the day-long auction, only five out of 41 vends could find takers, that too despite the fact that the department had slashed the reserve price from three to five per cent. Five vends that were auctioned were that of Sector 24, Sector 40-C, Maloya, Manimajra and Sector 34.
