A security guard and his associate were arrested by police for the robbery bid outside Sector 25 HDFC Bank on Wednesday morning in which they had shot at a woman, who ran a petrol pump, leaving her injured.
The police arrested the security guard, who was previously working at the IndusInd bank branch in Sector 11 in the city,Naresh, and his associate,Anil, who worked as a chowkidar at the house of a local businessman,in two separate raids.
Police got a tip-off during the questioning of the driver of the victim,Manju Mittal, who was injured on Wednesday. The driver,Rakesh Kumar, told police that Naresh had approached him asking for a job as a security guard of the woman.
According to police,Naresh had left the job at the same HDFC Bank branch outside which the robbery bid was made before he had got employed with the IndusInd bank in Sector 11 recently. He came in touch with the driver of the woman as she used to come regularly to the bank to deposit the cash which was being collected from the petrol pump in Sector 25 that she ran. The woman and her family run two other petrol pumps in Yamunanagar.
Commissioner of Police (Panchkula-Ambala range) Rajbir Deswal said the security guard while seeking the job had casually mentioned that a job or a bagful of cash that she was depositing every day at the HDFC bank branch in Sector 25 would do. However,Deswal said the police were investigating why the driver didnt alert his employer.
After the arrest,as per police,Naresh confessed to his crime and disclosed Anils name. Naresh and Anil are originally from Jind and Bhiwani.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Panchkula) Ashwin Shenvi said,Questioning of a number of people helped us identify the addresses of the accused, following which the raids were carried out.
