In her complaint, the victim has stated that Akshay threatened her to stay in a relationship with him for six months, failing which he allegedly started harassing her. The FIR also states that the accused forcibly took the victim in a PCR van to a secluded place where they gangraped her. When the victim tried to escape before the offence was committed, the accused thrashed her and put a revolver to her head. Workers of various political parties staged a protest in front of Sector 17 police station on Friday. Many protesters created a ruckus and damaged police property (signboards). Later, around 200 BJP workers marched towards the Police Headquarters in Sector 9 and protested against the Chandigarh Police. A scuffle between the protesters and police personnel broke out. The protesters dispersed from the area after giving a memorandum to the UT SSP demanding justice for the victim.

The victim resides in a joint family at Khuda Lahora. About three months ago,Akshay visited the victim’s residence after a call was made to the police regarding domestic violence at the victim’s house. Later,Akshay along with four other accused,in a PCR van, started stalking the victim wherever she went — school, home and other public places. A month later, the accused forcibly took the girl to a rented room at Khuda Lahora a couple of times, where they allegedly gangraped her at gunpoint.

On Wednesday night, the girl finally confided the crime to one of her friends. The friend then informed her cousin Vinod, who approached area councillor Saurabh Joshi for help.

Thereafter,a case under sections 376,376-D,354,341,34 of the IPC and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered.

Joshi alleged the victim was made to sit in front of the accused while she was being questioned at Sector 17 police station. However,DSP (Central) Ashish Kapoor denied the allegation.
