Adaminte Makan Abu,India’s official entry to the Oscars, will be showcased at the Palm Springs Festival

It bagged four National Awards — Best Film,Best Actor,Best Screenplay and Best Background Music — and is now India’s official entry to the 84th Academy Awards next year. Meanwhile,Adaminte Makan Abu (Abu,Son of Adam),a Malayalam film, has already travelled to BFI London Festival,South Asian International Film Festival and Dubai International Festival. However, the makers of the movie realise that these credentials may not be enough for the film to be shortlisted for the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscars.

The director Salim Ahmed and cinematographer Madhu Ambat,in association with an international entertainment marketing company,Dolly Kapoor Kreative, will be showcasing the film at the forthcoming Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF). The festival, often considered the run-up to the prestigious Oscars,is attended by most Academy members. “It is important that they watch the film. Only then can they vote for it to be selected,” explains Dolly Kapoor, who is planning the Academy campaign.

The 23rd Annual PSIFF is scheduled to take place in January 2012 in California and Kapoor intends to host two screenings for Academy members, followed by a dinner that will help the film’s team to network and share the idea behind the film. “Any Oscar entry needs to create the right kind of buzz among the right kind of people,” adds Kapoor, who has in the past represented Rang De Basanti in Hollywood.
