TWO MEN shot dead a Ferozepur resident outside Darpan City, a housing society, at Kharar on Thursday afternoon. The assailants fired 18 bullets at the victim out of which four hit him in the head, leaving him dead on the spot.

Police suspect personal enmity behind the murder. A case was registered at the Kharar (city) police station.

According to the police, the victim was identified as Inderjeet Singh alias Garry (27), a resident of Guru Nanakpura in Ferozepur district. He had come to Mohali two days ago and was staying with his friend Rohit at Darpan City. At the time of the incident, Garry was coming out of the society on bike with his friends Rohit and Ajay.

Rohit told the police that Garry had come to Mohali to meet Ajay. Ajay was driving the bike while Garry and he were riding pillion. While they were coming out of the housing society, two men stopped them and fired indiscriminately at Rohit and then fled.

“They did not ask about us and also did not harm us. A car was already waiting for them at other end of the road. After firing at Garry, they both fled. A man was waiting for them in the car. They fled towards Randhawa road. The car did not have any number plate and the windowpanes were covered with clothes. We could not see anything,” Rohit told the police.

Rohit said that he met Garry after a gap of around nine years and he took both Garry and Ajay to Chandigarh. They also went to VR Mall at Kharar for some shopping on Tuesday.

Rohit said that while they were coming out of the society, Garry received a phone call. “I asked about the call. He (Garry) simply said it was Bai Ji’s call. I don’t know about the caller,” Rohit added.

Ajay said he went numb after seeing his friend in a pool of blood. “I could not understand. The assailants were already sitting outside the society and were waiting for their target,” Ajay said.

Police recovered 18 shells from the spot. Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal, who visited the crime scene, said that preliminary investigation indicated that the assailants might be following Garry and they knew the exact location where he was staying. The murder seemed to have been committed due to some personal enmity.

“It could be a supari killing. Anything is possible. We are scrutinising CCTV footage in the area. Eyewitnesses told us that the car did not have any number plate. Our teams are working to trace the car and the assailants,” he added.
Police registered a case under murder charge and under relevant sections of the Arms Act.

Police were yet to trace the assailants who had attacked a retired Indian Air Force official in a bid to snatch his SUV. The victim was stabbed by the accused but he managed to escape with an injury.

Two friends’ role under suspicion

According to sources, the role of the victim’s friends Ajay and Rohit is under suspicion. They were questioned by police officials. Police also identified four persons who executed the crime and three persons who planned the murder.
