To make the bill payment system more efficient, the Municipal Corporation has sanctioned a proposal to make water bills available online as well as launch an SMS service that will send messages to residents regarding bill despatch, the amount and last date of payment.
The Finance and Contracts Committee (F&CC) has approved preparation of the Management Information System (MIS),under which a company would develop software and hardware for the process and enable residents to check their bills online.
For every connection,an id and password will be provided. When the bill is ready,an SMS will be generated informing the consumer about the total amount and the last date of payment. An amount of Rs 19.20 lakh has been granted for the plan by the committee.
Meanwhile,it has also been proposed that mechanised road-sweeping machines be used for cleaning V-4 and V-5 roads in order to utilize these properly.
At present, the sweeping machines are being used only on V-3 roads. However, these cannot be used during rush hour as they cause traffic chaos.
The annual maintenance cost of the machines is Rs 35 lakh while Rs 14 lakh is spent annually on spare parts. A proposal to run the machines in two shifts was earlier rejected by the sanitation committee of the corporation on the grounds that the cost of using the machines would become very high.
The committee also accorded approval to the rates for the Chinese food items to be sold at the Night Food Street. The civic body has till now not found any takers for the kiosk. It has further been decided that repair of the primary schools under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation would be conducted. The schools that have been transferred to the corporation from the administration are in a pitiable state and several agenda items for carpeting of roads, boring tubewells and others were also approved.
