With talks between the Haryana government and farmers remaining inconclusive on Thursday, farmers said that they now will hold a panchayat in Asodha village of Bahadurgarh on June 23 to discuss the next course of action.

A nine-member delegation of farmers’ outfit Bhoomi Bachao Sangharsh Samiti led by farmer-leader Ramesh Dalal met Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar here on Thursday. After the meeting that lasted about 30 minutes, Dalal said, “The meeting remained inconclusive and the deadlock between farmers and state government continues.”

On June 15, the farmers’ outfit had blocked Delhi-Rohtak national highway for several hours and put forth their 25 demands. However, on the assurance of the district administration that a meeting would be convened between them and the CM, the farmers lifted the blockades.

The meeting was originally scheduled to take place on June 21 but due to International Yoga Day celebration programmes, it was held a day later on Thursday.

Dalal added that the state government wants them to go through arbitration regarding the compensation issue. “However, we do not see any favourable response in arbitration as by availing that option, our legal right to challenge the government’s compensation for our lands that were acquired for Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC) stands ceased. Also, we wanted the government to nullify same-gotra marriages, but the state government does not want to discuss it. There are several other such issues on which we wanted the state government to adhere to our demands, but we did not get any favourable response. We will now hold a panchayat in Asodha village in Bahadurgarh on June 23 and decide the next course of action,” he said.
