A day after the Supreme Court pulled up the Punjab government for not complying with its order to shift fasting farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal to a hospital, and with the court set to hear the matter again on Tuesday, the state government is racing against time, without making much headway.

Dallewal is on a fast-unto-death for over a month now, as part of a protest by the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) (Non-Political), which have been camping at Shambhu and Khanauri — on the Punjab-Haryana border — since February 13 this year. The farmers have raised several demands, including legal guarantee for MSP (minimum support price).
