DUE TO the failure of the engine of a local train on its way from Shimla to Kalka, two trains were delayed on Monday. The Kalka-Shatabdi train was delayed by an hour and a half, and the Himalayan Queen from Delhi Sarai Rohilla to Kalka was delayed by two hours.
Said Naresh Sharma, PRO, Delhi Railways, “The engine of a local train failed, due to which passengers had to be shifted to these two trains, and this caused the delay.
There was also a problem with the rake-linking of trains due to this. The Himalayan Queen, which was scheduled to leave from Delhi Sarai Rohilla at 5.35 am left around 7 in the morning.”
Further, the two trains also faced some delay due to the ongoing construction of a railway overbridge at a level crossing near the Sonepat Railway Station. The much-delayed project is now expected to be completed by January- end, and will help in easing the traffic congestion at Sonepat.
On Sunday, several trains originating from the Amritsar Railway Station were delayed and cancelled due to protests by the supporters of Dera Sacha Sauda. Six express/mail and 27 passenger trains in Ferozepur were cancelled, causing inconvenience to the commuters, officials said.
