The UT Education Department is likely to convert into general category the unclaimed seats reserved under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in city private schools on Wednesday.

Last week, the department had declared that a total of 470 seats were lying vacant in 38 private schools.

The department had specified March 27 as the last day for applying for admission under the category, indicating that if any of the seats remained vacant after that, they would be converted into general category.

As per the provisions of the RTE Act 2009,all private schools are supposed to reserve 25 per cent of the seats at the entry class for children from economically weaker sections or disadvantaged groups of society.
