The UT Education Department has reshuffled the positions of eight of its officials, promoting two officials as Deputy Director School Education,a new post created by the department.

Chanchal Singh, earlier posted as District Education Officer (DEO),has now been promoted as Deputy Director School Education I,while Saroj Mittal, earlier Assistant Director Vocational Education, has been posted as Deputy Director School Education II.

The move has raised many eyebrows since both the officials have now been assigned powers which were earlier exercised by the Director Public Instructions (Schools). Department officials, however, stated that the key purpose of the reshuffle was to share the burden of work and streamline the system of monitoring schools.

DPI (Schools) Sandeep Hans said,“The decision has been taken in view of equipping the department with officers from academic background for a better understanding of all issues relating to the children and the teaching faculty.”

“We have tried to streamline the system. The charge of Adult Education has now been included under School Education, while earlier it was with the Director Higher Education. Both the officials will now be holding the charge of Adult Education under their new positions,” Hans added.

Deputy District Education Officer (DEO) I,Ram Kumar has now been promoted as DEO,while Suman Sharma has taken over as Deputy DEO I and Veney R Sood as Deputy DEO II.

The other promoted officials include Shiv Kumar,Tripta Rani and Anita Lekhi, who have now been posted as Assistant Director Vocational Education,Assistant Director Adult Education I and Assistant Director Adult Education II.
